Attention: You must actually own the DVD for this to be legal.
So if you are like me and have a good collection of concerts on DVD that you wish you could rip the audio cd/mp3 so that you can listen to them without having to play the dvd here is how to do it using 3 free programs.
DVD Decrypter: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/
Ac3Dec: http://www.users.on.net/~rsobon/bin/ac3decode821.zip
a wav-to-mp3 converter of your choice (page of software the encodes mp3 files http://lame.sourceforge.net/links.html)
Directions:
- Insert the Dvd insert the dvd drive
- Open Dvd Decrypter
- From the mode, menu select IFO
- From the edit menu, pick “Select Main Movie PGC” to select the main movie. Be aware that some movies have multiple PGC files that contain audio such as extras that are not part of the main movie.
- Click on the Stream Processing Tab
- Click the checkbox to enable stream processing
- Uncheck everything except the audio that you want to rip. A lot of converts include both 2ch and 5.1/6ch audio. You only need one, I typically have used the 5.1 ch audio.
- Click on the audio that you want to rip and select the “Demux” option at the bottom of the screen.
- Under the Tools menu select Settings
- Click on the IFO Mode tab
- Select “By Chapter” for the file splitting option. This is essential if you want each chapter to be a different audio track
- Click the Encode button
- Once Dvd Decrypter is done, open up the Ac3DecGui.exe
- Select the “Convert to Wav” option
- Click the “Output Codec” button and select PCM for the format and 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit Stereo for the Attributes.
- Click Ok
- Now open Windows Explorer and navigate to where you stored the files that Dvd Decrypter created and drag all of the ac3 files onto the whitebox in the Ac3DecGui application.
- After Ac3Gui is done, you will need a wav to mp3 converter program. I know that there are several free programs out there to do this but I do not have a recommendation since I am using Alive MP3 Wav Converter which cost money. If anyone has a recommendation for a free program that does this let me know and I will update this post.
- Before converting to mp3, I would listen to at least 2 of the wav files just to make sure that they sound ok.
