Lifehacker posted some good uses for a remote server. I am going to try setting up the Internet Jukebox (#4). I have been wanting to do this for a bit but just have not looked too much into it. If time permits in between Halo 3 sessions, I am going to try to set this up this weekend.

I can attest that Synergy2 works extremely well. I have used it on 3 system to control all of them with one keyboard. The setup was extremely easy. Basically install on all of the machines and then on the computer with the keyboard/mouse setup which computers are to the left/right of the computer.
I also configured the ctrl+alt+del keystroke to be something besides ctrl+alt+pause/break which is the full screen shortcut for remote desktop. There are instructions on the synergy web site for how to configure keyboard shortcuts.
The one issue that I cannot get around is that you can't auto start Synergy on Vista so you have to login and manually start it. Not a big deal for me since Vista is my computer with the keyboard/mouse hooked up.

Today Reflector 5.0 was released. This is the best tool to see the code in a .NET dll. I have used it many times to look at code for applications that I only have the .net dll for.

I was watching an episode of DNR TV (http://www.dnrtv.com) last week and it got me thinking about how I could do something very similar at work for the technical presentation that we sometimes give. I know that quite a number of times, I have found out after the fact about a presentation another group has given on a topic that I am interested in and wished that they had recorded the session.
The way that DNR TV records what is going on, on the desktop of the person being interviewed is using Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp). I look at using Camtasia but the cost is a problem since we would need multiple licenses for the product and without having tried to record presentations before, it is hard to justify putting out money.
So what am I to do? Well, I just happened to be reading some blog this weekend and ran across a product called Cam Studio (http://www.camstudio.org) that is open srouce and free for commercial use. So I quickly download the program to give it a try. Within 5 minutes I had it installed and had created my first video with it. The program is incredible simple to use. It allows you to either record the full screen or a given region. The only thing that I did notice is that there is no option to record at a lower resolution than the monitor is currently running. I am sure that I could fixed this during post-processing. This product also creates flash movies in addition to the avi's and will convert the avi output to a swf movie.

I have run across this problem several times.
from: Properly Set 100% Table Heights Using CSS
I like making webpages that expand to fill the entire browser window, but ever since browsers started rendering in full-compliance mode it has been a chore because tables do not respond very well to their heights being set to 100% directly in the table tag or using CSS. I normally just revert back to "quirk" mode by removing the DOCTYPE element from the Visual Studio generated pages to get the table to expand out. But there is a better way!
The following article explains why the tables behave this way and how to get them to expand to a 100% height using valid CSS code. Very useful stuff!

Recently Microsoft has released Remote Desktop Client 6.0. They have a version for windows xp (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=26F11F0C-0D18-4306-ABCF-D4F18C8F5DF9&displaylang=en) and Windows 2003 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=CC148041-577F-4201-B62C-D71ADC98ADB1&displaylang=en).
Below are some of the enhancements that I found to be useful.
1. Monitor spanning
Remote Desktop Connection now supports high-resolution displays that can be spanned across multiple monitors. The total resolution on all monitors must be under 4096 x 2048 pixels. The monitors must have the same resolution and be aligned side-by-side. Memory is also used on the Terminal server as you build up the screen resolution
To have the desktop of the remote computer span multiple monitors, type Mstsc /span at a command prompt.
2. Visual improvements
Remote Desktop Connection now supports 32-bit color and font smoothing.
To enable 32-bit color, follow these steps:
1. Start Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Click Options, click the Display tab, and then click Highest Quality (32 bit) in the Colors list.
To enable font smoothing, follow these steps:
1. Start Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Click Options, click the Experience tab, and then click to select the Font smoothing check box.
3. Resource redirection
The Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 client also allows you to redirect Plug and Play devices that support redirection.
To redirect a Plug and Play device, follow these steps:
1. Start Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Click Options, click the Local Resources tab, click More, and then click to select the Supported Plug and Play devices check box.

Ran across this cool bit of code. I could have used this for some of the projects that I have where paging of data is not an option.
